I get the following when I try to emerge xfree:

parser.cpp:1505: declaration of 'int isatty(int)' throws different exceptions /usr/include/unistd.h:668: than previous declaration 'int isatty(int) throw ()' make: *** [parser.o] Error 1

!!! ERROR: x11-misc/ttmkfdir-2.0 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 1, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

This happens after about 10 minutes of compiling. What am I missing? The installation directions don't tell me there is anything special I need to do before emerging this.

Looks like you're not having problems with the xfree ebuild itself, but with ttmkfdir. Do you have freetype intstalled? Some more info might be handy - I assume you're using gcc-3.2. What kind of USE variables do you have going?

I couldn't get xfree-4.2.1 to compile, and even though 4.2.1-r1 was masked it compiled fine for me. Give it a try: emerge /usr/portage/x11-base/xfree/xfree-4.2.1-r1.ebuild

The use flags I set before I bootstraped were:

USE="xv slang readline gpm berkdb mmx 3dnow gdbm tcpd pam libwww ssl nls mitshm arts lame perl python esd gif imlib sdl oggvorbis gnome gtk X qt kde motif opengl avi png tiff gif"

I tried emerge /usr/portage/x11-base/xfree/xfree-4.2.1-r1.ebuild as well and got the same error.
