Ever since I put Gentoo on my Ultra 2, it goes to "sleep", for a lack of a better way of putting it. Anytime that I am compiling something that takes a long time. eg. boot strap, mysql with a lot of dependancies. etc. if there is no interaction with the system, after a while it will pause or sleep. The screen will still be blank, I press a key on the keyboard, the screen comes back. But it is just hanging there. If I connect via SSH, or if I already have a session and press enter, it wakes back up and continues on doing what ever it was doing like it had never stopped. No errors, no corruption that I have found. Nothing more than its like it pauses or goes to sleep.
Google didnt find anything about it, but its kind of a hard problem to describe. Has anyone else seen this before? I don't think it is hardware related since I have had aurora and debian on it with out issue, but I will not rule it out.
Any suggestions or places to ask, etc are appreciated. |

Unfortunatly no, this is the Gentoo 2004.1 boot CD kernel. Latest finding is, it only does it while compiling. |

This exact thing happened to me. While doing an emerge system during the install from stage2, The system would hang, and wake up exactly as described. This was using the live cd boot from 2004.2 on a Dual Processor 200mhz Ultra2 Enterprise with 512 memory. |
