Uh, I don't know but I may have screwed it up :(

Anyways...I used cfdisk to partition a 4 gig hard drive for gentoo.

My IDE setup
--hda=60gig WD--C:=2.45gigs-boot, windows install, D:=54gigs-data.
--hdc=4gig WD--hdc1=2gigs-boot, don't know what else, hdc5=700MB-swap, hdc6=1.3gigs-I don't know what is going here.

Anyways, right now the bootstrap process is done, and right now it is emerging the system (emerge system). I don't know how much room I have left on the drive, as this is my FIRST ever install of Gentoo.

Does anyone have any idea?? Advice for the first install?? Any tips for the next install (next week)??

Thanks In Advance...

So, what I do is:
1)Run cfdisk
2)Delete ALL Partitions
3)Create a Primary Partition, 100MB, FRONT of drive, will become boot.
4)Create a Logical Partition, 700MB, Swap, Right after Boot.
5)Create a Logical Partition, the rest of the space, which will naturally come after the previous partitions.

Well then, Gentoo will automatically figure out where things go??

If that's it, then thank you very much for the help rommel :)

or make all of them primary since your allowed 4 primary partitions on a hard drive...but in any case thats how i would partition the drive. and yes during the install gentoo will do what is needed...just follow the install instructions...the install txt on the website however left out editing modules.autoload before your first reboot so just remeber to add the nessesary modules to get your system up and running properly before you exit the installation and attempt the first boot

gentoo will know where everything goes based on your /etc/fstab file

where you will specify your mount points for each partition.

I'd also advise to create a /home partition, like that if something goes really wrong, you'll always be able to retrieve your documents/personal stuff, as well as keep your preferences.

Well....the install died last night so I'm gonna repartition and try next week.
I don't know anything about modules...so expect a question on that later on ;)

nps, I don't like modules, I prefer a monolithic kernel with everything built in directly :)

and if you don't have the hardware that is built into the kernal, then you can just comment it out and not have to worry about wasted memory/resources/space :)
