|
|
Hi!
Until today i used the kernel drivers with my SB Live 5.1 to get sound out of my box. But since 5.1 doesn't work that way, i wanted to install the emu10k1 drivers. So far so good. I (think I) did everything as written down in the docs and in this very useful thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=12955
But: It doesn't want to work, and I got no idea what's the problem.
First thing, sound works after rebooting - but I didn't compile drivers into it. Soundcard support is M, OSS is also. Why that? After installing the drivers as described, modprobe doesn't work:
Code: | bash-2.05a# modprobe emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r7/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r7/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r7/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r7/misc/emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device

Hum. Since I am not really a linux crack I just don't get it. Anyone there, who can help me?
Thanks in advance |

First you should reconfigure your kernel with only sound support nothing else selected under the sound group.
Then recompile your kernel with a
make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install
Not knowing how much you know about recompiling you will need to move the kernel Image you just made to a place that your boot loader will see it.
Then I would suddjust that you use the ALSA drivers.
You will need to play with the mixer setting to get everything to sound nice but after that you should be all set. |

Just to let you know, at the moment of this writing, I still haven't been able to configure my sound correctly...
I have tried alsa, which didn't put out sound to all my channels (and I have tried virtually every possible option in alsa-mixer, and no one was able to help me) ... then I tried OSS commercial, didn't work either ...
And now I'm starting off ground with the opensource.creative.com drivers, which is proven to provide the best sound quality... but still doesn't work properly...
Have you emerged the emu10k1 ebuild or you downloaded it from their website? _________________ Grtz,

you need to run alsamixer and unmute `Wave Surround` slider besides unmuting the `Wave Surround' slider, you will also need to **MUTE** the `Analog/Digital Output Jack' (the right-most slider in alsamixer) to enable rear speaker output |

The single line at the top shows, that obviously an older version of emu10k1 is loaded, that I didn't install manually - how do I get rid of that? I don't have any sound drivers in my kernel, so I don't know where this loaded driver comes from...
Thx in advance |

i cant remember exactly where i read this but from what i hear you need to make sure there is no alsa support installed on your system (not really a bad thing from my experience) and then you'll have more luck with the creative open source drivers |
