I installed KDEvelop recently, because it seems to be the only decent IDE available, and I was hoping I could install it without getting any KDE-stuff with it, but now it seems it won't run my programs unless I have Konsole installed.

I can't find any setting to set it to use for example xterm or something, and I have no idea what and how to install to get only Konsole.

Any ideas?
I do not want to install KDE.

Most kde programs need the kdelibs and kdebase package.
I think kdevelop also needs kdesdk. However, this already gives you a light KDE, whichout too many menu's, apps etc.. You don't have the emerge all kde packages to run kdevelop.

If you need a different IDE, I've heared Eclipse 3 is really good.

Yes, Eclipse is very competent, and I got it to run and was able to make a C++ project in it.
However, the damn thing kept crashing on me all the time.
It was some java error, and it kept crashing in different parts of the program, so I couldn't really isolate the problem, so I couldn't use it.

Do you think that the latest version is more stable?

I've heared some good stories about it, but I can't guarantee it. ;)

yeah, but, is there a way to configure kdevelop so that it uses xterm or an alternative (ive taken a liking to multi-aterm) instead of konsole?

the closest ive been able to come is that theres an option (Options->Project Options->Run Options->start in external terminal), but it would be nice to use another terminal app.

Perhaps you can try to disable konsole instead? You can do this via settings --> KDevelop settings --> plugins

close, but when you disable the Konsole plugin (which i did courtesy of your info), you'll still get the same error as before. the options-proj opts is the only thing ive found so far that still gives you output but uses the integrated terminal. erg. this problem will have its solution.

thanks, though

I tried changing the default terminal in the KControl Center, KDE Components -> Component Chooser -> Terminal Emulator, but with the same results. Kind of crummy.

The bug report can be found here, it's resolved in 3.2.1 if you don't mind unmasking it.

Now to figure out exception handling...
