and

Code:

IRIX rw1 5.2 07261423 IP22 mips

What to do? I think it would be great to use some old IRIX on it, NFS is working with my Gentoo-Server! But this machine seems to have no dhcp and I can't manage to get the default route to get internet-access.

But maybe I get a better SGI soon!

OH oh I know.... take out your agression on it.
Sorry that my bias coming out. I've recently been cursed to have to work on some old skewl SGI's and I'm not really enjoying it.
Have to reboot to change my IP? What is this? Win95?

basically if you log in as root, you can get the DHCP to get an IP for you at least, but default route you have to set yourself. Go into the System Manager from ... uhh.... X-Windows? OpenWindows? I have no idea what it is actually... hrm.
Anyhow you can configure the network settings from there and get the default route (and reboot) and get your DNS settings in there too (oh and don't forget to reboot again....)

Worst case, give it a static IP, and go from there.

I have no problems in changing the IP-Adress. I don't have to reboot.
But there seems to be no dhcp client installed.
I have to check a few manuals to get this default route to work...

But it doesn't have any webbrowser on it, nor can I find any compiler....

I don't know about 5.2 but in Irix 6.5 there is a command "chkconfig" that will give you the status of the system services.
