That is the error I get when I try to print to a Xerox Docuprint 4508 connected to a ClarkConnect Server box. Printing was working perfectly fine from my Gentoo machine until today. Any print jobs I send to the printer get cancelled, and will not restart, hence, the above error message. I deleted the printer, re-set it up. Nada. A test page from the server works fine, and printing from the XP machine also on the network works. I tried unmerging cups and reemerging it again and still have the error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ You must first blind your eyes, deafen your ears, and trust your heart to know the truth.... |

I was getting this error too...and was banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out.
I finally solved it by adding "cups foomaticdb" to my make.conf and re-emerging cups. _________________ Open-mindedness is painful... |

So did you ever fix it?
I am having very similar problems, almost a year later.

I'm re-emerging cups right now as we speak. I've got my fingers crossed. I have had nothing but great luck with the Gentoo Forums. This shouldn't be any exception. I'll let you know as soon as it's finished. Deal? _________________ You must first blind your eyes, deafen your ears, and trust your heart to know the truth.... |

Okay, it didn't work. What keeps canelling the jobs? When I check into the cups logs, it says it was "user cancelled job". What gives? Why all of the sudden does it start doing this? I'm lost..... _________________ You must first blind your eyes, deafen your ears, and trust your heart to know the truth.... |

Mine's the same , its been perfect until a couple of days ago.
Two changes I have made since the weekend:
small changes to cflags so just poss there's something that compiles but then fails - consider unlikely.
I updated glibc .
This is a minor upgrade but just about everything uses it, it has to be a candidate.
Have you done anything similiar . (what's your glibc version now?)
Are you sure your job's are cancelled? What does the localhost:631 cups interface say?
My jobs get marked as completed in this interface although nothing happens at the printer end.
Also worth noting I can print a text file from command line with lpr.
Having just rebooted the system I have been able to open the text file in Opera and print, the job now shows in the cups interface as job complete but if I click Restart Job I get the sama "client-error-not-possible" .
Repint the same file works OK.
Printing this page as I type in browser works.
I recreated a new printer entry from the cups admin yesterday this seems (fingers crossed) to have cleared something
Have just been able to print same from kedit.
Looks like I'm in the clear!!
Note : I use turboprint and I did not do the foomaticdb thing in make.conf suggested by the other post.
I hope that you get going.
