ebuild scripting: gconftool-2 problem!

hiya. i'm having problems with the latest gnomeicu cvs head. i created an ebuild script for gnomeicu cvs that worked great! but in their latest update they started using gconf. now the problem is that they're getting the /etc directory by using gconftool-2 --get-default-source and that's! that's where it gets installed! what can i do to overcome this? when the ebuild script trys to install i get premittion denied on /etc/gconf/...
