As we all know, we can clear cache using
"ipconfig /flushdns" under windows 2000

Then my question is how to clear cache under Linux dns client .
What command can do this?

Unless you are using a local DNS caching daemon, Linux does not cache DNS requests.

There isn't any since it's not needed. The Windows DNS cache flushing thing is an ugly hack that's necessary because the Windows DNS client is an ugly hack. The Unix resolver libraries handle everything transparently. The closest you may come to ipconfig /flushdns is the situation where you run a caching-only nameserver and you need to restart it for some reason. Assuming it's ISC's BIND name server, it'd be

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/named restart

If you're running nscd restarting it may clear the cache, I don't know because I've never used it.
