Hi all,

I installed Gentoo for the first time a few weeks ago. It runs great, but sometimes I get nostalgic and would like to play with the Commodore 64 again. :-)
I would like to run the Commodore emulator: Vice. But when I write 'x64' in a console I get following:

Set fontpath: `xset fp+ /usr/lib/vice/fonts'.
DGA: Vidmode extension currently not supported
DGA: Vidmode extension currently not supported
*** VICE Version 1.9 ***

Welcome to x64, the free portable Commodore C64 Emulator.

I used to be a C64 addict too... :)

I have the exact same problem with the same error messages. The initial VICE ver 1.1 worked fine, but when I reinstalled the VICE ver 1.9, those error messages showed up.

In this case though, I'm running Gnome. I haven't been able to find the problem.

Anybody have any ideas?

A quick note. I recently discoverd that version 1.9 of VICE is NOT the most recent version. What I thought was version 1.1 is actually version 1.10. So 1.10 is more recent then 1.9 afterall :). Therefore the more recent 1.10 is the preferred install... And it seems to work flawlessly for me.

So I guess we can ignore 1.9 now...

Man those version numbers are confusing sometimes! :?

Great, now it works. Thanks Laplace :-D

It was really nice to see that blue screen again. It was funny how I still could remember many of the Basic commands. I havn't used it for more than 10 years.

You are right, that version numbers can be confusing.

Well, now I will start some spagetti-coding..... "GOTO 20" ;-)
