I am going to get a DVD writer. Does anyone know if the LG 4160B works under Linux? TIA _________________ The free market gave me gonorrhea.

I've been using the GSA-4081B on a pile of machines. It's probably just an older version of the same drive. One thing though, I've just been using it for DVD-RAM backups using Microlite BackupEdge. BackupEdge uses a licenced version of Jorgs CDRecord (DVD Version). Im also pretty sure I've used the drive to burn a regular data CDR using the regular CDRecord. |

Thanks wbreeze, you were right, the LG 4160B works fine. One caveat for anyone interested in it, you must use DAO. I just used dvdrecord (which is actually just cdrecord). The commandline I used is below:
Code: |
dvdrecord -dao -eject -v dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 /tmp/dvdrom.iso

Hi papal_authority, I'm thinking to buy one LG 4160B. I'm wondering if you can use all of its capabilities? i.e. 16x DVD+/-RW and Dual Layer. How long does it take to burn a 4.7GB DVD? One last question, can I use the burner in an external enclosure via USB2? My enclosure is currently housing a 80G hard drive now. Thanks. |

hi all!
I use k3b to burn my cd and dvd, and dvd-r 8x from TDK as support.
the write speed should be 8x but why k3b still writes at 2x?
I selected DAO and 8x as write options.
tnx in advance.
