Straight from my post in "Newbies" , I realized that It might not be the correct forum, if a moderator could please delete my post there, it would be great .
Strange NIC issue. : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=22824
(for some reason I could not get the URL function to work in opera b7)
Hello;)
This may be some stupid error I have overlooked but ;
I have a cnet pro200 nic, and as far as I can see, this card is supported by the tulip, and dmfe module, both in the kernel.
When I boot from the boot-cd(1.4 rc1), and run "net-setup eth0" , for some reason It will not detect my gateway-dhcp server, running clarkconnect(rh7.2).
When I set a static ip, such as 192.168.1.2 ,192.168.1.255 as broadcast, and 255.255.255.0 as netmask, (my gateway/dhcp-server is 192.168.1.1), I can not ping it, or any other computer on my home network.
When I look at my hub, I can see the led blinking when I try to ping, but for some reason I can not get a "reply".
Trying to ping from one of the windows pc's on the network results in "request timed out"
I find this very strange, because obviously the card is up and running, due to the blinking led, but still, It has no contact with any other machines.
And _yes_ the cable is plugged in, when I boot windows, everything is fine.
If I run ifconfig after setting a static ip I can clearly see that the nic is up and running, and that is has the correct ip.
If i run ifconfig -a after "trying" to get a ip from the dhcp server, the nic is not "up".
Trying to ping myself works fine.
Please, help a noob in trouble;)

When you set static information, can the clarkconnect box ping the IP? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

no, neither the clarkconnect box or any other computer.
Argh, I think I'll just drop gentoo for now, and perhaps try rh or somthing,)
A shame really, gentoo seemed so nice;( |

hmm , I finally found the source of the problems.
I searched through what felt like the entire forum, before I found a possible reason. For some reason my onchip usb were conflicting with my network card. Turning of usb in the bios solved the livecd-network problems. I have now recompiled a kernel, and everything works fine, even with usb turned on. Just thougth I should post this incase someone else has this problem.
Currently emerging kde, does anyone know how long it will take on a tbird 1.4 ? |
