Is it just me or has Ibiblio become rather slow lately? It took me almost an hour to snag a kernel image on a t1 at work last night, and almost 4 on a 1.5 DSL line at home today.
Sure is frustrating when trying to build a new system on the laptop. Are there any other mirrors that can be suggested that may go a little faster or is ibiblio throttling gentoo sources out?
Perhaps easily switchable sources could be an idea for a future upgrade.. |

Sometimes when slashdot links to it (and they do it often), or programs hosted by it, it'll slow down a lot. Damn them! _________________ open like a child's mind. |

Haven't noticed any speed issues here. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I've noticed when I forget to start eth0, and try to emerge something, emerge will fly through a list of alternative mirrors to ibiblio.org
Is it possible to specify which mirror you prefer to download from? I'm not sure where ibiblio servers are located, but if there's a system geographically closer, as well as down the list of mirrors, it may be faster to connect and download from there. |

Can't say I've noticed any slow up although I tend to pull stuff off them late at night which might explain that

I'm not sure I see how this thread is at all related to Carnivore, or meat eaters...

try changing to an ibiblio mirror - eg. in the UK (and probably quite fast for the rest of europe) try mirror.ac.uk. In /etc/make.conf add:
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo"
On Janet (ac.uk network) I find a hell of a lot faster than ibiblio. |
