KernelOfTruth, my son browses this forum any chance you could tone down your sig? I don't see why you need it really, given that this is a Gentoo forum, not an adult one. I don't want to start a flame war - i'm just asking.

*sigh* - I apologize, the quote was "straight from the horses' mouth"
better now?

(now you only need to remove the quote so no traces will be left :P )

though I think that there will be even more offensive language in these forums ...

how old is he, btw? starting early with F/OSS and gentoo, eh ?

update:
ah, now I understand what you meant when commenting on that signature of mine
in an other thread / post ...

Excellent  Many thanks, you're a gentleman.

He's only 6 but has his own gentoo installation! (I started it but he maintains it, following what i do.)

Gentoo needs a new front page at www.gentoo.org. It's horribly out-of-date and is probably responsible for turning potential investigators off dabbling in gentoo.

We only need one install/livecd a year - keep it simple and get rid of the notion 2007.0 2007.1 ... etc, just call it 2007, 2008 - spend the saved time dealing with more important matters. Tell people that we don't need to update like fedora and Ubuntu, use this fact as an advantage to using Gentoo. Gentoo should be singing their own praises ... "We don't need continually updated install cd/dvds, we're always up-to date - The power of emerge, and make.profile ... etc, ..etc...!"

The front page should be a single page explaining how gentoo differs from the monolithic distros not the ethereal news letters which, in my opinion have never really been anything to shout about (get rid of them altogether, they waste too much effort). Everyone who uses gentoo, and has become proficient at using it knows that there simply isn't a better way to use Linux - gentoo.org should be boasting about this, not hiding behind an archaic web page and disappointing people with useless livecd update failures. Gentoo should be above all this nonsense.

Better still encourage users to build/distribute their own hardware specialized install/livecds (like specialized kernels) let gentoo.org concentrate on core builds once a year

Um....EXACTLY! I'm hoping and praying that something happens soon. PLEASE O PLEASE give this site a facelift. Aaron Shi's recreation of the Gentoo.org page is very nice, pretty much all the others too.

Lets start with the site - revitalize
Next the 2008, 2009, 2010 type of release cycle is a very good idea.
In all honesty, does everyone really think we need a GUI installer? Gentoo & CLI go hand-in-hand.

I'm not a developer so I can't help there but I do what I can where I live to spread the linux word!

Lets keep Gentoo alive!!! (and well  )
