I am installing Gentoo-1.4-rc1 on a P166 (96mb 2.5GB IDE, 3c509)
Partitions are hda1 /boot hda2 swap hda3 /
This machine has used redhat and OpenBSD previously without problems.
Kernel (vailla-sources in this case) has been compiled with network card, IDE etc in kernel - not modules. (although it should be noted that this problem is occuring during the install when the relevant kernel is the one on the ISO)
I am getting an error setting up GRUB (version 0.90-r7 which is working ok on other Gentoo boxes here)
on starting grub I get
Code: |
Probing devices to guess BIOS drives this could take a long time [it dosn't]
end_request I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
modprobe : modprobe : can't locate module Block-major-33
modprobe : modprobe : can't locate module Block-major-33
modprobe : modprobe : can't locate module Block-major-34
modprobe : modprobe : can't locate module Block-major-34 |
I once had a GRUB problem with another install that was solved by emerging an older version but that was some time ago with, I think, a different version mask. _________________ --

... seems like a bug/feature of this version. It seems to work id, contrary to the install instructions, I create the menu.lst file before running grub. _________________ --
