This is probably not an uncommon problem. I searched the forums, but I couldn't find anything that helped. If you think I overlooked some thread, please direct me to it.
I just installed gentoo and followed the alsa-guide. But my sound sounds really weird. It is as if it is played through a long tube, with some kind of echo.
I have kernel 2.6.8-r3 and use the snd_intel8x0 module. (kernel generated with genkernel) |

I had this too - the solution was to lower AC97 volume. Play with alsamixer - it is probably some volume is set too high. _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

I'm having that same exact problem right now as well. I'm using 2.6.10r6. I had sound working excellent previously, and then I did a reinstall to start fresh and it's now got that in a metal tunnel sound. I've checked over my volumes quite a bit and cannot find anything that is turned up that shouldn't be. I also do not have an AC97 setting I can find. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm stumped. The sound is there and is good, except for the odd delayed metal funnel sound.
