|
|
I have a Sun Blade 2000 now. Now it is running solaris. But Linux has much more softwares I can use. So I wanna change to Linux. But under Linux, the fan is so noise. In solaris the fan noise will become lower after booting. I am wondering if there is some tools controlling the fans in linux.
Anyone knows? |

You could look at the ACPI section in the 2.6 kernels, but I don't think you're going to be able to have the system monitor the heat sensors and adjust the fans accordingly under Linux. |

Most of them are yes, but I'm not sure that all of the SPARC models have variable speed fans either. |

lm-sensors has what you need. After lm-sensors is installed you will find two shell scripts. One of these will assist you with configuring your fans and the other is the script that handles the speed control. Look for a file named fancontrol in /usr/sbin or /usr/local/sbin this will have enough info to get you started. |

Last time I checked, lm-sensors didn't have any sparc related sensors in there. As the newer sparcs are using more and more PC chipsets on the motherboards, it's possible that the 1x00s or the 2x00s might work, but up to now there have been no reports of anyone trying or it working at all. |
