Emerge Xfree problems....it stops at makestrs.o

Hi, I'm trying to emerge kde, but It always quits at the xfree dependencies. It downloades the 3 xfree86 src files. Then starts to compile. The last thing I see is makestrs.o and makestrs.c
Can you help me?

well when you say stops....how long have you left it to see...also you might just give somemore details as to you particular system...ie hardware ....i am compiling kde right now and it does pause for some time at certain points...i am running dual 1.26ghz plll's with 512mbs of ram

I know when it stops cause when I press the the cursor keys it moves the cursor instead of giving the ascii code of it to the screen. ARGH! Why is this so unstable? Red Hat is looking mighty good right now....can someone help me to stay Gentoo?

i dont know what to tell you really....kde just finished and i emerged mozilla after it...all i know is there are times on my system it would pause and look like it was crashed but wasnt....it would resume and go about its business...thats why i asked you for how long did you wait before you killed the processes
