the system is locking up at the XFree86 login screen. This problem started after I had the machine working and could log in. I had mounted /mnt/gentoo/boot to look at my grub.conf file I then restarted the computer for some reason without doing umount /mnt/gentoo/boot.
Sine then I have repeated everrything in the installation guide after the emerge system. I made a new menuconfig and everting had gone allright up to now. I find that I am still left with the same problem as before. What could cause the system to lock up atthe XFree86 login screen?

| Does startx from the console work? What display manager? |
