it looks like the unstable libxml2 library .. try reverting back to the old one (libxml2-2.4.24)

got back to libxml2-2.4.24 and now it goes so:

oh, you probably have to recompile kdelibs/base , for the meinproc to be recompiled with the old libxml2 library ...

I just registered this bug in bugs.gentoo.org.. I don't think it has to do with the libxml, because I followed the solution found in another thread and it worked.

I manually untar the kdelibs bz2, ./configure --prefix=/usr/kde/3.1
Then make
Then, inside kdoctools folder, make install. (NOT the entire kdelibs make install).

Then everything compiles fine, whereas before I was getting the same exact first error. I don't see how it can be a libxml thing since I've never changed the version of it, only done the manual compile of kdelibs/kdoctools as suggested.

Someone really needs to look at this :-)

Kde 3.1RC3 done at last :)

Last night I started to upgrade kde to the latest release canidate. Ran into a few problems (I know that this is in the forums if you search, but I'm lazy, and I belive other are as well so I will put it here)

First problem Kdelibs requiers arts 1.1.0.2 and should be 1.1.0.3

nano -w /usr/portage/kde-base/kdelibs/kdelibs-3.1_rc3.ebuild

Change:
~kde-base/arts-1.1.0.2 to ~kde-base/arts-1.1.0.3

Bingo... now it seems to work... or so I thought

Next pitfall for me...

kdetoys failed.....

turned out that it is the libxml2 2.4.26
so I reverted to libxml 2.4.24

but kdetoys still failed.. but dfferent error. :)

I reckond that the kdelibs was to blame so I first rm /var/cache/edb/dep/kde-base/kdetoys-3.1_rc3 (and kdelibs-3.1_rc3)
(I got bit with a cache bug in kde 3.1rc_1, so I just assume it will cause me a problem )

I then reemerged kdelibs-3.1_rc3 then emerge -u kde

It built and is working now.

yes I know this is repetative... but maby it will help somebody out

BTW rc3 seems to be stable for me at this moment..

remember before complaining about problems that this is masked and considerd unstable... and in a way we are ensuring that kde 3.1 (final) will be rock solid for those that arn't as bleeding edge

FYI my problem with rc_1 was because I grabed moments after it was made available in portage.. aparently there was an issue corrected shortly after I had started the upgrade ( and thus causing the problems)
rc_2 was no problems at all and my only problem besides the wrongs arts being referenced was libxml-2.4.26 in rc_3

Good Luck 8)

btw I did not have to do build anything manualy

ok was just wondering if anyone else had problems with rc3 yet?

so far i finished a install of base & libs got into started messing around and it was reaallly slow.
the next time i tried to go in all i got was the black box at the startup screen and then nothing.

it was compiled with -Os so I'm trying it again at defaults.

also notice that Qt seems to never wanna upgrade but thats probably another thread.

hopefully itlll work this time

I'm having the same issues. Right now I'm rebuilding kdelibs and I'll see what happens. Strange thing though, I had built rc3 once with no problems on a clean install but upon reboot I had an unrecoverable hard disc corruption (using XFS) This time around I switched hard disks and used reiserFS with the gentoo kernel and got these issues. I'm guessing it may have been a minor portage change in the 6 hours of building but I'm not completely sure. I guess we'll see how it runs in the next few hours.

to be honest, there isnt really much point in compiling the latest rc*'s, especially rc3, because the final version of 3.1 is coming out in a matter of days, weeks at the most.

The compile bugs will be fixed by then and it will probebly be more stable and optimised!

If nobody tests rc3 there will be allot of bugs in the final
so testing a rc or beta always makes sense :)

I agree.
now i just need to remeber to install betas with default settings so that the problems i run intoi are more likely to be bugs than me specifying goofy compile options :)
