Hi,

I'm a Linux noob, and after a couple of months of Fedora I am in the process of switching to Gentoo. Over the last couple of days I've managed to get a stage 1 install up and running, including my wireless LAN and Radeon 9800 Pro.

I originally installed gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r3 but have switched back to 2.6.7-r14 (to avoid the cd burning issues with 2.6.8 and also I get better LAN performance with 2.6.7). However, while I can still boot into 2.6.8 and get 3D acceleration from my 9800 Pro, I clearly need to rebuild (recompile?) the module for the 2.6.7 kernel.

But I don't know how. :(

I tried re-emerging ati-drivers but it compiled a module for 2.6.8-r3 and placed it on the /lib/modules/2.6.8-r3/video directory even though I was using 2.6.7 at the time.

Any help, much appreciated...

Yoiu may need to change /usr/src/linux your symlink back to to /usr/src/linux-2.6.7-gentoo-r14 and re-emerge the drivers.

Yes is the same way for peaple that uses nvidia drivers, the kernel in use must have a symbolic link (/usr/src/linux).
Have fun
