2006.1 LIVE - Install GRUB to root partition on hdb?

Hi there,

I'm running Windoze XP on hda, some Linux distributions on hdb and now want to install Gentoo to hdb too. While typing this I'm using the graphical installer and am now at the point where to install GRUB.

I'd like it to be installed on the root partition (hdb) so that I can boot into Gentoo via an already installed boot manager in the MBR (chainloading). Unfortunately I can't find any corresponding option

. Is it sufficient to uncheck the checkbox named "Install to MBR" or will this mean that GRUB will not be installed at all?

Well if you've already got linux on a partition then grub will already be installed yes?
If thats so then just add the appropraite part of the manual into that linux's grub.conf/menu.lst and you'll be fine

Thanks, but: chainloading means that you have a bootloader installed to the respective root-partition (i.e. /dev/hdb9) and that this bootloader is initiated by another one installed to the MBR. Therefore I guess I maybe have to edit a /boot/grub/menu.list, but I - of course - would do this only if unchecking the "Install to MBR" checkbox is insufficient, right?
