|
|
hi!
recently I'm having an issue with Gnome (2.6). Anytime I want to add a wallpaper (at the moment I have a color gradient [unwanted]) I click on "open", but then the wallpaper simply does not appear in the list!
How come
This is really annoying.
I tried deleting $HOME/.gnome2/backgrounds.xml several times, didn't work.
So what
Please help ...
Thanks in advance!

When I go to the "Change Desktop Background" option by right-clicking on the background, I get a dialog that has no "Open" button. The first time I did this, I got an empty list of wallpapers and needed to click the "Add Wallpaper" button to add one to the list. Since then, any wallpaper that I've added to this list appears automatically when I return to that dialog.
After the list is populated with at least one wallpaper, clicking on the one you want will make it your new background.

yesyes, that's exactly what i did... well, i have used gnome for a long time before, and i have always been able to add wallpapers.. so, as you said, i (as usual) opened the background-dialog by right-clicking on the desktop. then i choose "add wallpaper"... then a file-dialog appears and i choose the jpg-file i'd like to have... but.. when i then click on "open", it does NOT appear in the list of available wallpapers.. that's why i also cannot chose another wallpaper in the list... |

What happens when you try to drag a picture from Nautilus to the background capplet? Or middle click dragging a picture from Nautilus to the desktop and selecting "Set as Wallpaper" ?
I found that because the 2.6 capplet offered no preview in the "Add Wallpaper" dialogue it was useless since a good amount of my wallpapers are named 59240924.jpg and such, so I got into the habit of using Nautilus to D&D my wallpapers places.. |

the problem now is: when i drag it with the middle mouse button, te menu appears, BUT the "set as wallpaper" function is grayed
so i cannot set it as wallpaper.... what's wrong?

Do you have any weird settings in gconf for Nautilus? e.g. having show_desktop disabled under apps/nautilus/preferences ? The description of it sounds like a blanket way to have a clear desktop without any icons, but it actually makes it stop drawing on the desktop at all. |
