A few things... first of all, I have an Audigy Platinum, running Gentoo 1.4_rc1.
1.) What happened to the emu10k1-audigy ebuild? About a week ago it still existed, now it doesn't. I noticed that now the emu10k1 covers the Audigy sound card, which I emerged, and brings me to question 2...
2.) I am getting errors when I insmod / modprobe 'emu10k1':

Does this thread help? https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=18000
I used it to get my Audigy OEM working, and it works great. I haven't tried anyhing else, o I can't help with the emerge audigy-emu10k1 question...

yeah, I read that one earlier (when I was searching for a solution to my problem), but it doesn't really help. I can't even get the modules to load correctly. _________________ McManus

i also noticed that the emu-dspmgr moved from /usr/sbin to /usr/bin, but that's not really a problem
i will try to compile the sources from sf.net || fill bug report

back from sf.net...
looks like missing sequencer support in the kernel (CONFIG_SOUND_OSS) or disable sequencer support in the ebuild ( echo "SEQUENCER_SUPPORT := n" > config)

Thanks for the help! It modprobes fine now.. however, still no sound!? I'm looking into it (and hoping it's just a setting ... ) _________________ McManus

Hmmm... Her'es what I did...
I emerged alsadriver and figured out that the Audigy wouldn't work. So, I pulled down those drivers in my first post, installed them, then did an emerge emu10k1-audigy, then rebuilt my kernel for OSS support, nothing selected, then I think I emerged alsadriver again.
I get sound now, I couldn't really tell you which did the trick. Maybe emerge xmms and try playing an mp3 or something. Maybe you are muted. I know in the alsa directions, it says you need to unmute via amixer, but I didn't do that.
Hopefully that helps in some twisted way... I'm still getting the hang of this linux stuff as well. Struggling every step of the way, but dammit, I'm getting rid of Windows if it's the last thing I do... hehe

er... sorry... I'd like to avoid Alsa if I can (last time I used alsa instead of the emu10k1 driver, I ran into a whole slew of problems). I'm going to try to get it to work, and if all else fails, I guess I'll use alsa. _________________ McManus

additionally, i have script which makes the 2nd DSP available and redirects the sound to the front speakers, so u can play rtcw and listen to mp3

Nope, not yet... Still workin' on it...
Actually, I'm rebuilding right now (from school, nonetheless.. sshd + vncserver == t3h 1337 ! ), 'cuz I totally fscked up my system last night in frustration, hehe...
Hopefully the damn thing will "just work".
....if not, I just need more time to figure out what's wrong. school is RELENTLESS... _________________ McManus

Sound is still dead. I got the same long error message when I tried to modprobe emu10k1 after emerging the new driver. After enabling /dev/sequencer in the kernel module and recompiling the kernel, then reemerging emu10k1 it will modprobe without any errors, but it remains dead silent. I have used aumix to make sure that sound is not muted. And I am not using ALSA and I hope I won't have to. Did anyone of you resolve these problems?

Ah well, after setting MULTICHANNEL=no in /etc/emu10k1.conf the sound works :) |

AHA! It doesn't like the emu10k1-script that gets run... which probably has to do with your conf file as well. Bugs will be bugs... I just hope it *eventually* works/gets fixed... I was even considering downgrading to a SB Live! 5.1 for tihs system..! _________________ McManus

Yeah, apparently it was me running audigy-script after changing settings that got me sound. I had to add it to one of the start-up scripts manually. Are you saying that I could have it run automagically when the module is inserted somehow?
Another slight problem is that I get kernel warnings saying
Code: |
[modprobe] modprobe: Can't locate module synth0
|
I am guessing this is related to the fact that no MIDI is playing :)

er......... my problem went away after I _removed_ the script.... and speaking of which, did you say audigy-script? Did you emerge emu10k1-audigy (which no longer exists) or emu10k1? The latter has emu-script (which is original... audigy-script was just renamed, is all). I'm a bit curious now as to what's wrong with the driver, and wehther or not we have the same problem... (btw, trying what you did doesn't work for me... go fig... I still can't run the script at all. When I have time, I'll go through it and see what's borked or whatnot) _________________ McManus

I removed emu10k1 from modules.autoload and when I tried to modprobe it I saw that it complained about "bad routing". I traced it down to the post-install directive in modules.conf, and after changing emu-script to audigy-script in /etc/modules.d/emu10k1, running update-modules and adding emu10k1 to modules.autoload again everything works fine.
I still have the synth0 problem though. I will try adding alias synth0 emu10k1 and see if that helps.
This gentoo installation is just two days old and I've never had the emu10k1-audigy ebuild installed.

I had exactly the same problem that you stated in your first post in here McManus. But since I had tried to solve it for too long by then I gave up and used the Ebuild that can be found on this page
http://basic-rip.co.uk/tenpin/linux_audigy_faq.html
After emerging it everything worked fine, so if you haven't found the solution yet it can probably be found in that ebuild. |
