I was thinking, and it would be great if there was way to customize the colors that "ls --color" uses. Is this possible, and if so, how do you do it? Thanks 8)

If you do a 'less .bashrc', you should see a reference to dircolors, using a file /etc/DIR_COLORS. In that file different colors are defined for different types of files.

Ok, I found /etc/DIR_COLORS, but I have no reference to it in .bashrc. How do I reference it?

Take a look in /etc/skel You should find a sample .bashrc file which you can use by iteself or use as a reference on how to source /etc/DIR_COLORS

Ok, I tried inserting 'dircolors ~/.dircolors" (with the -b, -c, and no option at all) into my .bashrc/.bash_profile and it doesn't work (I copied /etc/DIR_COLORS to ~/.dircolors). It says
Quote:
LS_COLORS='';
export LS_COLORS
when a new terminal is opened. I think that LS_COLORS should not be empty... :?

Okay, I forgot to add "TERM Eterm" to it. So now it exports correctly, but it doesn't actually change the ls color settings...
