|
|
It seems to me that the elite 3D is a later card for Sun's but
Creator is already known to me as working under X on my Ultra 1.
If I was getting an Ultra 60 would it be worthwhile to seek
one with the Elite 3D video, or should I seek one with Creator 3D?
Any Pros and Cons? |

i'd take one with an elite inside...
if you're able to get 3d acceleration working, you'll be better off with an elite |

They both do fine in an Ultra 60. Actually, you can have one of each and compare (Elite-m3; Elite-m6 is two boards.)
As for Elite, I don't believe there is a possibly of DRI 3d acceleration. There is with
Creator, though. However, it is not quite working correctly for Creator yet (although it's getting closer).
And, the Elite performance degradation seen in xorg-x11-6.7.0 is gone in
the 6.7.8 release candidates. So, at this point, you will not see a practical difference between them.
So, if you are getting an Ultra 60, other considerations (memory, CPUs, disks) are more important when making the initial choice.
Graphics cards (Elite & Creator) are usually available on eBay at reasonable prices if you want to eperiment later.
Graphics you don't want: Sun ati (Radeon) cards, if any work on U60 (not worth it);
Expert-3D (if it works on U60?) -- no Linux support for it, no X11 support for it.
Hope this makes some sense, |

Do you know when it will come into portage or do you just get it using the cvs version? |
