hi,
has the poll feature been disabled in portage and programming?
i'm asking because i wanted to start a poll about the modules-update feature. to me (and perhaps to others as well, dont know) it is more convenient to edit modules.conf directly. what sense does it make to use this modules-update feature? it reminds me on YAST <g> or better /sbin/SuSEConfig
for example i would add parameters to a SCSI module. i would do that in modules.conf, but the file does not keep the settings. i know i should do this (for whatever reason) in /etc/modules.d - but have no idea if i simply could add a new file called SCSI, or if i should put this in one of the existing files. this is completly untypical for linux, IMHO.
OTOH portage and programming might be the wrong place perhaps - but i dont see any better yet. |

I think the modules.d directory is better for ebuild writers: to add something to modules.conf you just drop a file into the directory and run modules-update. Otherwise the ebuild would have to do some scripted editing of the modules.conf file which would surely be prone to errors. |

ah, i didnt see it from this point of view. so what does this mean to me? could i simply create a file called "scsi", stuff it in modules.d and put my parameters there? |

If it is not a request for support, it should go to gentoo chat. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |
