My Reiser3 Gentoo system has hardware stability issues (by that i mean 'the case is a bit warped and i have to tape stuff in place') that necessitate periodic messy reboots (and by that i mean 'pushing the reset button'). As such, my filesystem has become quite corrupted over the past 6 months, and I had to do some fscking. That went allright, rebuilt my tree and whatnot, but now some (well, quite a few) files are corrupt. One of these is a libpango (package 'pango') file that X (xorg-x11) needs to start. I've tried re-emerging pango and, when that didnt work, xorg-x11. No dice. The pango emerge fails with no error message. What should I do? Thanks in advance! |

you could boot the livecd and chroot to your HD, then emerge pango again? |

Well, after trying every version in portage and failing one by one, I did get the same version of pango to emerge (without booting a livecd or anything funny, although that same version had failed earlier). No change in X behavior - still wont start. It gets a fair way into it, that is, I see the Nvidia splash screen and later the X cursor on the black screen, but after showing me the X for a second or two it crashes back to the terminal. |

my opinion is that you are going to be best off resolving your hardware issues, backing up what you can't live without and starting from scratch. |

Damn.
Thats what I've been thinking, but wanted a second opinion in case there was a possibility I could resolve my issues otherwise. Thanks for your input though.
a-bootstrap.sh-ing I will go, just as soon as I get some heavier duty tape for my bitchin' AMI Megaraid. Too bad those things dont really fit in an ATX case, hehe... |

Hi,
maybe helps here. I don't know if it checks the libs wether they are corrupted or only files that depend on not existing libs.
