Hi all, I've installed Gentoo-2.4.26 for sparc for what seems the umpteenth
time :? and thought I was following the help files but still have a few errors
on boot into the new installation.

Cannot open font file default8x16
    *failed to set user font
cannot open file sunkeymaps
    *Error loading  key mappings
Error initializing random number generator

I know for a fact that I mounted the proc fs during installation but am also finding that "emerge" is not recognised as a command and that I'm unable to cleanly shutdown (I have to shutdown with ctrl+alt+del or through "stop+A"), can anyone help?? TIA.
Will Burchell.

It is really hard to tell what is wrong from the little information
you have provided. It could be a kernel compiled with too
few options to get the system up, a problem in your /etc/fstab
file, or an error completely extracting the base Linux +
file system from some stage.

Do you have multiple partitions? Is one of them not mounting
on boot up?

What stage level did you install from?

You might need to boot from CDROM again, and rather than
completely redoing the install like one would for Windows,
just double check that the installation instructions are
all covered and you have not missed anything. If you
find you did miss a step, then just do that.

What kernel package did you select? Did you config your own kernel
or use the genkernel package? If you made your own config
perhaps it isn't good. If you don't know enough about the mappings
between config options and Sun hardware, it might be easier
to stick with genkernel, which cooresponds to how your live CD booted.

Are there any more failures on boot up or other things that seem unusual?
