I have a g4 mx 440 and I've followed the lhl.linuxgames.com tutorial on how to set up wine to run counter-strike, but it doesn't work
It starts up (gives an error about MCI) and then I choose "new game", diff level and then console appears like it's loading and another console on top of the first one but a but displaced!
when I had the rage128, HL would run with winex but I couldnt play because of this second console that appears. The first one would go up normally and game would start, but the second would not go away and I could only sew one inch of the gane on the left of the screen!
Any tips ... ? |

I got my HL and CS fix using wine (proper, or vanilla, or whatever) and used the information found at the wine "application database." You will be interested in the HalfLife section found here. Hope that solves your issues!

Hi, I am interested to know if it works well... Counter-strike is the only game I play and so If it could work very well under GNU/Linux... I will probably never more use windows...
So I juste want to know... it is good emulate... some problems ? (I heard about sound problems).... more lags ...?
(I must tried to install Dreamweaver MX, and all the application I need run under my GNU/Linux box...)

And what hardware do you (guys who ran it with no probs) have with what modules/drivers ?
I have a Geforce 4 mx 440 and using nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx.
Compiled winex and wine (I tried both) and then ran it with hl.exe and it shows up that second console above the main one, where the game is occuring... |

I have the same card as you and I also used the nvidia drivers, though I use a nvidia retlated setting in my config (i think, not at my box atm) . Halflife should also work without it...
I use wine and used winesetuptk to create my config, it took me some fiddeling with the settings but at the end it worked. Monday when I'm at home again I'll post my config here

I have played it with a Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP (I know it is old) and it ran faster under linux using wine than it did when I had windows on the same machine. Pretty remarkable.
Good luck!
