For those who saw my post a few days ago about not being able to get my PCMCIA network card working with stage 1 install ISO, I think I found a way around it, would this work?

Is this a good way to get the equivelant of a stage 1 Gentoo system if I don't have a network connection

(for those who don't know, my Linksys PCMCIA card drivers aren't on the 1.2 install ISO, and the 1.4 install ISO doesn't have PCMCIA support precompiled, so I don't have networking from the CD. Original post is here =>https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=20919 )

1. download Stage 3 tarball on CD and get the system working with a kernel compiled for pcmcia and my card, thus getting the network up and running.

2. Edit compile configs to customize my computer.

3. emerge world.

Would this get me the equivelant of a stage 1 build from scratch?

Are there Gentoo install ISO's with Stage 3 tarballs on them?

Not quite drastic enough. If you've got a fast enough CPU, I would recommend:
Code:
# /usr/portage/scripts/bootstrap.sh
# emerge -e world

Thanks, I forgot about bootstraping. Now the question is how to get the stage 3 tarball onto the machine to begin with. Are the downloadable stage 3 tarballs bootable ISO's?
