Hello!

Yes, this is yet another nvidia thread, sorry for that but all the other threads didn't give a solution for me.

My Problem is, that I am unable to use my GeForce 5700 in X with either
nv or nvidia as selected driver.
(The system works with my old Radeon 8500)

I already tried multiple kernel versions in the 2.6.* range as well as enabling/disabling:
preemtible kernel
agpgart
framebuffer stuff
acpi
apic
ioapic

As I am currently trying to re-emerge nvidia-glx, nvidia-kernel, xorg and opengl-update I do not attach xorg.conf stuff.

Especially interesting is that lspci gives some unknown id that is not in the nvidia-readme as a valid pci id.

The card is: XPertVision GeForce FX 5700, 256MB TV DVI.

So, does an unknown pci id break xorg and the nvidia driver?

Many thanks!
Christian

Attached is (I will attach more once I have compiled the rest of my stuff but for now hope for some answers...) :
- lspci

For now (just did it...) the problem seems to be solved (cost me enough so i hope it is).

I did:
CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=y <- was before
CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT=y <- is now, too

together with:
"NvAgp" "1" in my xorg.conf, I currently have >2500 fps with glxgears, so it seems to be working ok. If my tests run ok too, it's solved.

Thanks for reading!
Christian

That wasn't it. Interesting though, that after a single boot the system freezes on startx
