Heres my problem. I install UT 2003 fine but then when i go to run the splash screen pops up sits there for about 2 seconds and disapears. any ideas? by the way im running gentoo 1.4_rc1 w/ KDE3.1 beta 2.
My first thought was that SDL or OpenGL were missing but i've installed both and the problem persits. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

start it in a terminal and post the output of the terminal. That should give us a place to start.

Okay i ran it in a terminal (dont know why i didn't think of that) and this was the output:
Code: | sh-2.05a$ ut2003
Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual
History:
Exiting due to error |
So after that i emerged nivida-glx and ran opengl-update nvidia
but that didn't fix it.
any ideas? |

Also, I noticed that when using an XF86Config file genterated by XFree86 -configure there are color depths below 8 bpp specified. For some reason the nvidia drivers on my system refused to work until I commented those lines out; even with "Load glx" and the "nvidia" driver properly specified. That's something you may want to check if your XF86Config file was automatically generated using XFree86. |

Okay i got it to work but im not sure how
i emerge nvidia-kernel and GLX (v 1.0.3123) and that completly broke X!
then i switched back to my old tars i had used for redhat (v1.0.2960 the ones i had been using before the emerge) and that fixed that.
then i checked my XF86config file and yep Load "glx" was uncommented
so just to see if it would make a diffrence i commented it out rebooted and ran X. I got the same error but this time it mentioned somthing about Xlib not being able to find GLX (duh) before the "Couldn't set video mode" error . So i uncomented the Load "glx" line and restarted the Xserver (with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE) tried UT and it works!??
i don't know how and im far too tired to question why. im just happy it works.
oh and Thanks to everyone who responded. |

The 1.0.4191 drivers are now availible. You may want to give those a try. I've had good results with them.
Also, the real problem I mentioned in my earlier post was from not having a default color depth specified rather than bogus color depths in XF86Config. The nvidia drivers don't seem to work properly without it a specific default. |
