I've got my sound working using the emu10k1 drivers and OSS. However, there seems to be no "master" volume control, the volume controls all control left, right, front, or back...there is no master up/down. I realize I can just use the volume control on my speakers, but is there a better way? |

Are you using a Soundblaster Live and the native kernel oss drivers?
If so then you might try these drivers http://sourceforge.net/projects/emu10k1
I use kmix for my volume control and the master control works fine with the above. |

Soundblaster Live 5.1, and I'm using those emu10k1 drivers, not the builtin kernel ones.
I use digital out to a 4-speaker system, the "master" volume control controls the front 2 speakers the way my setup is. |

What is the difference between the emu10k1 drivers in the gentoo kernel, the ones from sourceforge and the alsa ones? I mean different features supported/unsupported, different quality, etc. _________________ Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most. |

Use the SB Live! drivers in the kernel, and emu-utlils from sourceforge. They worked wonders for me, the sound is at the correct volume, "vol" control front speakers, and "ogain" control the back. For overall volume control, I use "pcm". Not to mention the very nice bass & treble controllers I've got.

I got it working by emerging alsa (and specifying sound support as a module in the kernel)
Digital out works great, but you can't control volume with that
haven't tried AC3 yet, but would like to know if somebody did |
