I see that they added support for emerging both stable and current code trees. I dont really know how all that works and I'm just looking for easy instructions on getting KDE3.1 rc1 installed.
Thanks |

You'ld find it a bit difficult because the tarballs aren't available on the Ibiblio servers yet. I'm still waiting for them as well. _________________ Postcount ++ |

Tarballs are up but you have to edit the arts package to get it to compile, And aply a patch for kmail to compile I'd just wait for rc2 which is scheduled for next week anyway. And once that's out you'll probably find the "unstable" kde release in package.mask rather than in the new unstable system. _________________ --First General Edgaer

there are changes needed (after unmasking) to compile kde-3.1rc1. at first the arts-ebuild has a wrong tarball as the source. on the other hand some digests are missing so they must be created...
i think this will be fixed shortly |

Doubt that will happen with rc2 scheduled for release as soon as it is _________________ --First General Edgaer

I compiled it ... looks good, not much different from beta2. I had to download the arts file myself and rename it, most digest files are missing and you have to patch one line in the kmail/kmmainwin.h file inside the kdenetwork tar. The patch is on kde's 3.1 site. |

I would suggest to read previous posts about installing KDE 3 (any version). In my experience, arts and kdemultimedia present the same kind of problems with some optimization flags and (unless the new ebuilds mask these flags) it is worth to reduce optimizations before compiling these guys. |
