Is there someone thah nas successfully emerged ati-drivers-8.8.25-r3.
With kernels 2.6.9, 2.6.10, 2.6.11 I recieve error ¨DRM module not build¨ and ofcourse I have no 3D acceleraion.
I successfully merge ati-drivers-8.8.25 on kernel 2.6.9-r14 with DRM module but when I try to insert fglrx module I recieve error:
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.9-gentoo-r14/video/ц.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

Following this:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=250647&start=310 I have the same results

Any ideas

I got the same thing, I had to unmask a -r3 ebuild and then it worked.

Allright, i got the 3d acceleration working in kernel hardened-2.6.10 but i want it working in dev-sources-2.6.10 and I can't get it to work.

I emerge the opengl-update & the ati-drivers with the AMD64 accept keywords.
When I modprobe fglrx i get 'module not found', thats kinda weird isnt it? :?

The other modules are loading perfectly tho, agpgart and the amd64_agp.

What am I forgetting to do :?

UPDATE :

Its working now, after emerging the drivers for the fifth time I was able to modprobe fglrx, opengl-updated to ati and after a reboot its working! :)
The results look poor tho :(

Code:

9166 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1833.200 FPS
9222 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1844.400 FPS
9354 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1870.800 FPS
9352 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1870.400 FPS

it works for me with gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.10-r7 and ati-drivers 8.8.25-r3
but i get a very bad score in glxgears around 1700 fps on my 9600 pro. i had double that score with my old geforce 4 ti4200 >_<

I have the same issue:
I'm on a AMD64 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 and I get about

Code:

6131 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1226.200 FPS
6559 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1311.800 FPS
6560 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1312.000 FPS
6541 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1308.200 FPS

~1300 fps. That's pretty poor. :(

If you were to read the last few comments here, you'd think that glxgears was linux's Killer App. ;)

Damn, you guys are scaring me, I was planning on replacing my MSI NX6600GT PCI-e with a X800 XL since it's cheaper than the BFG GeForce 6800GT OC PCI-e I originally had my eye on. If it's this hard to get these drivers working on the AGP port, I'll be deep in it trying to get the X800 working on my RS480M2-IL.

Looks like I'll be the one bug reporting that libglx problem since nobody else seems to be doing it. :P

Please excuse if i'm too dumb to find what i'm searching for, but is there already a definitive x86_64 ATI-driver howto? I know about such docs for the old x86 standard drivers, but these explanations did not quite help me with installing the 64bit version :(

Regards
Erik

Everything should be about the same for installing the 64-bit drivers, the only difference being the agpgart stuff in the kernel since there's some sort of on-cpu thing for Athon 64 that's automatically enabled in the kernel.

Also, I have found the Gentoo docs rather incomplete, so I have always followed Wedge_'s instructions to install the drivers: http://odin.prohosting.com/wedge01/gentoo-radeon-faq.html

PostPosted: Sun Feb 27, 2005 1:32 am    Post subject: glx problem fix Reply with quote

I bug reported the glx problem, and found out what exactly the problem is, though it hasn't completely been fixed. The original xorg-6.8.2 ebuilds fubared the /usr/lib64 symlink. I believe this problem is fixed so it no longer fubars the link if it's good, but they tried to make the ebuild fix the fubared link but it was unsuccessful. On my system /usr/lib64 was pointing to ../lib64 when it should have been pointing to ./lib. So if you are using xorg-6.8.2 and are having similar problems, check that link. If it's wrong just do
Code:
cd /usr
rm lib64
ln -s lib lib64

I had to re-emerge the ati-drivers and do opengl-update ati after that.

Don't be surpriesed if you run into some other problems after this especially if you've been using your system for a while with the incorrect link, because some packages probably put their libraries in the wrong place thanks to the bad link. All these problems should be fixed by doing revdep-rebuild or re-emerging the broken packages.

Here's a patch on the 8.10.19 ebuild that makes the drivers compile on both <2.6.10 and >= 2.6.10 kernels.

Another data point: emachine 6809 laptop, mobile athlon64 3200, ati mobility radeon 9600:

10296 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2059.200 FPS
10302 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2060.400 FPS
17367 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3473.400 FPS
17840 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3568.000 FPS
17803 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3560.600 FPS

iommu off, agpgart compiled into kernel 2.6.10-r7

Finally, everything that matters works great on the laptop (builtin broadcom 54g and ati 9600) Thank you all!

I have heard that ATI driver can not work on NFORCE mainbroad computer.

Is it true?

I have installed ATI official driver on my amd64 gentoo. And modprobe it , No error information report.

But the driver doesn;t work.

No prblems. ATi graphic card works well on Nforce3 Ultra Chipset motherboard.
Now the FPS hits 4600.
please refer a thead on the forum about ati-driver installation.

No, you do not downgrade to old kernel, currently I am runing:
Quote:
amd64 root # emerge ati-drivers -pv

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

I just found out recently that on some systems it's the other way around, /usr/lib is a symlink to /usr/lib64. It's probably that way on your system.

Does anyone else get this bullshit?
REGARDLESS of what I do, what kernel version I use, what patch I use, ANYTHING... This is ALWAYS what I get when emerging ati-drivers... Using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4 right now... I have tried 2.6.11-r3 and 2.6.9-r14... If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it... Time is running short, though, I don't know if I can withstand for much longer; at this rate, I would pretty much rather install anything else.. I have spent the last 2 solid days working on this. In the end, it doesn't seem to be worth it, really.

*edit*

Forget it, this is definitely the last straw... I'll just revert back to my last distro and attempt to run my amd64 on it instead...

Code:
# emerge ati-drivers
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) media-video/ati-drivers-8.10.19 to /

I get the warnings but not the errors, are you using the same version of gcc to build the ati-drivers as you used to build your kernel?

I've followed every direction everywhere. With AGP as modules, without modules, even tried sis-agp which isn't actually supposed to be built on an x86_64 kernel. I've tried all the different settings of "UseInternalAGP", fastTLS to 2, all that stuff. Still, I get an ENODEV message when fglrx tries to load the drm module...and this results in no 3d acceleration. I'm at a loss here...I've been able to figure my way through most of my problems on Linux, and I wouldn't consider myself a newbie, but I'm stumped. Anyone else in a similar place?

My chipset is the SIS 760 BTW..looks like most people who've gotten it to work are on nvidia or via, anyone with the 760 chipset got the 3d action happenin? Also I've got a 9800xt but it's ASUS branded, though I couldn't imagine this is the problem.

I remember somebody else having a problem with a SIS chipset. That person did some research and said that there's no AGP support for it :| https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2094424.html#2094424

donjuan> wow..if what this guy says is right, that kinda blows. But there has to be some sort of support, as I most definitely get video using the card in the agp slot. maybe there's just something generic that is working, hence no 3d. dunno. anyway, thanks for your reply.

EDIT: one last thing, I did get the older driver versions (before 64-bit support) working with a 32-bit kernel. this is all very confusing, and when i google "sis 760" ati agp linux most of the web-sites are in not English.
