Gnome vfs (2.6.2 ~x86) pauses for *minutes* on local files!

I noticed in the past few days that my ~x86 Gnome desktop is a bit broken.

If I try and launch gnumeric it takes about 5 minutes before opening. If I try and load abiword/gpdf they load instantly, but just freeze when opening any document (even tiny ones).

Has anyone else noticed this?
