Hey I have troubling running kazaa lite under wine. Every time I try to run it, wine gives me the message "Couldn't load library SHLWAPI.dll"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think this is one of the things kazaa needs from IE. i think if you use winex you can install IE from it. might sound like madness (IE on linux!) but i think it works. I know i got ie working under crossover office but that was for office 2000. Just make use if you use Winex to install IE, use it to run kazaa lite.

Or don't bother running kazaalite...

I'm using overnet. Only just the console but it is totally easy to search for stuff plus using it with 'screen' rocks.

yea, but kazaa has some major advantages, like the 4.5 million ppl online at most times, the files being shared, the speed, etc. I prefear kazaa, but im tring to ween my self off it and use gnutella. overnet? that the .net thingy? never liked that. tried it on win2k. couldnet connect though my firewall.

I had to fight with this one a bit myself

unmount any dos/win partitions
emerge wine
emerge winesetuptk
as user ...
winsetuptk
let it install a fake_windows directory, and don't change and/or modify any other settings...finish the install....
edit the .wine/config file
append the following:
Quote:

[AppDefaults\\kazaa.exe\\DllOverrides]
"commctrl" = "native"
"comctl32" = "native"
"comdlg32" = "native"
"msvcrt" = "native"
"shdoclc" = "native"
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"
"urlmon" = "native"
"wininet" = "native"

[AppDefaults\\kazaalit.exe\\DllOverrides]
"commctrl" = "native"
"comctl32" = "native"
"comdlg32" = "native"
"msvcrt" = "native"
"shdoclc" = "native"
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"
"urlmon" = "native"
"wininet" = "native"

now mount your win98 patrtion
copy the abolve listed DLLs to your ~/.wine/fake_windows/Windows/Systems directory

now as user run the kazaa install program (I am using kazaalite-screw kazaa and their dirty tricks...)
ie.
wine kazaalitexxx.exe

do the install thing
then as user
cd ~/.wine/falke_windows/Pr*/Ka*
wine kazaa.exe
(icons are located on your nautilus desktop und gnome and listed in your menus under kde---they work just fine too....)

speed-up doesn't seem to work...crashes for me....and I have yet to install the MShit media player(6.4).....

I know, I know.. everybodys got there faverotes but.. you might try giFT, its design is based on KaZaA/FastTrack and since ive goten it, I havent used anything else, its that good.. period.

there IS an ebuild for it but it dosent work, however its just as easy to install from cvs. read the directions on gift.sf.net

youl see that you dont need 4.6 million Windows retards to share that MASSIVE volume your looking for. only takes a handfull of Linux users ta do tha job. :)

Thnx for the ideas, I'm gonna try it when I get back home (haven't installed gentoo on laptop yet :D ), one thing though, since I have only w2k partitions, is it ok if I download the dll's from the net?

As for trying the different p2p programs, I really didn't find anything I liked, but thnx for the suggestions.

Also I checked out frank's site and someone did have a similiar problem, but noone managed it solved it there, that's why I came here.

I tried adding the dlls like you stated and changed my config file to like you show it, but still no luck. Now I get a comdlg32 error. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

And I tried qtella, but I can't seem to connect to any of the networks.

I've set up giFT cvs at work yesterday and it works a treat. GiFT is all I need right now!

Well I have to say you guys are persistent about me not using kazaa. So I caved in and tried some of your suggestions. giFT doesn't seem to work to well for me, and giFTcurs keeps locking up on me. I tried gtk-gnutella and it worked like a charm, so I'm happy :)

Thanks for your suggestions.

The Win2K GUI is written in .Net, yeah. The linux console client runs fine without it though. Overnet is just a new iteration of eDonkey2K ( much code in common ), but uses a serverless file location model.

Not so good for narrowbandies like me. mlDonkey forever! ( I could never again give up the convenience of md4 summed downloads and things like www.sharereactor.com )

Overnet is still useful for some software but then it's a pita to wait for a specific software to actually get downloaded!

Keep your eye on giFT. The stable version should be coming out around at the end of this year/early next year.

I've got the comdlg32 error too. I copied the DLL's right out of the cab files on the win98 CD. tried recopying comdlg32 again thinking it might have been corrupt but no luck. I"m gonna try downloading other versions of that file.
