I just recently did the following two things and my microphone stopped working entirely for recording purposes (like teamspeak) but it still echoes back:

Updated to gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4
Changed my KDE session in the login manager to kde-3.3.0 (guess it wasn't doing that before for some reason)

Now my problem is a) I can't talk on teamspeak and have people hear me and b) my alsa settings are NOT saved on a reboot, and I can't turn up nor select as many things as I had last time. I copied my .config over from the -r3 kernel, so nothing should be a problem there.

Is /etc/init.d/alsasound getting started?

With KDE 3.3.0, the mixer is kinda screwy :? . By default, 3.3.0 ignores the system-wide mixer settings set by the alsa boot scripts. You gotta use KDE's mixer - KMix - in order for KDE 3.3.0 to save the settings on reboot. Kinda annoying.... :x

Nope, even with kmix's settings I still can't get my mic to work.
