RealPlayer 10.0.2 Gold was just released. Could someone update the [still in testing until legal issues resolved] ebuild, please? |

root@NikoDim ~ # ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin

I use Athlon 64 on an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board running kernel 2.6.10 and gcc 3.4.3
I tried using env-update and ldconfig but it does not help. I emerged libstdc++-v3 again but it
does not help. I tried using the ebuild provided. It does install realplayer but
root@NikoDim ~ # realplay
/opt/RealPlayer/realplay.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
On a side note I have a similar problem using OpenOffice binaries ... I assume that somehow
do not set correctly my libraries, but after a week of reading post concerning problems
loading shared libraries I did not go any further. That is none of the poseted solutions worked
any suggestions as to where I could find a solution or should try to do? _________________ "Life is a day ... and that is today" - unknown |

I'm getting this when a video stream begins to come across in RealPlayer 10: Code: | The program 'realplay.bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 34 error_code 8 request_code 140 minor_code 13)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) |
I am seeing this in 10.0.1.436 as well as 10.0.2.608. I am running KDE-3.3.2 and xorg-x11-6.8.0-r3. The player quits and goes away as soon as the video begins to display. I can see the video frame for a fraction of a second before RealPlayer 10 dies. |

I get this error no matter what version of RealPlayer 10 I emerge. The only thing quirky I'm doing that I can think of is that I'm running dual monitors with nvidia's TwinView extension. But then, every other player I have works just fine (e.g. mplayer, xine, ogle). Any ideas on what this error means to me would be most welcome. |

Well, I've gotten similar errors with mplayer in the past. I determined something was funny with the XV extension in xorg/xfree. I don't remember which update caused it. This problem caused the mplayer-plugin to stop working. I fixed it by changing the default video out from xv to gl.
Right now I'm running xorg-x11-6.7.0-r2 and realplayer-bin-10.0.1.366 and realplayer works. |

Well, I've had RealPlayer 10 working before, so I would suspect that something is goofed up with X and xv. Like I said, the only thing different between when I had RealPlayer 10 working before (a few months ago) and now is that I've added a second monitor and am running Twinview, nVidia's dual-head setup. I'll post my solution when I stumble on it. |

Well, I tried to get things done the right way (tm) as much as possible, but RESTRICT=nomirror will have to do for now . I'll be at SOCAL Linux Expo from the 12th to 13th of Febuary, and guess whose gonna be there! Real! I'll go bother them, expecially since the guy that I'll be talking to is the speaker there ;p (wee). So expect something by tommorow.
Btw, if you're going to be using x86_64 with real, you probably need 32 bit emulation libs as the real libraries are such. |

Do I run the above command once or everytime?
OK. I find aoss in alsa-oss. Thanks anyway! _________________ choose Gentoo, choose freedom |

works for me.
I put it in a script so that I can click and play rm/rmvb files.
Code: |
echo "#! /bin/bash" >/usr/bin/realplay
echo 'aoss /opt/RealPlayer/realplay $*' >> /usr/bin/realplay
chmod 755 /usr/bin/realplay

Is it just me, or is 10's video really choppy? A friend tried it on another gentoo box, and things that realplayer8 played fine were most choppy with 10. We're both running xorg in fvwm on otherwise totally dissimilar x86 hardware. |

I manage two live RealVideo streams at work and have a fair sized archive of programs for on-demand streaming, and I can say RealVideo 10 is a marked improvement over version 8 on quality and stability. Several things can cause choppy playback including bandwidth available at the server (ran into this recently), network congestion between the server and your player, and whatever is going on with your computer. I believe RealVideo 10 streams might require a little more CPU than previous versions; but I don't know for sure.
And the player is user-friendlier. Unfortunately, a lot of folks are quite turned off from installing based on experiences with earlier versions. I sympathize, but I've got co-workers that won't even install RealPlayer 10. It's a pity. Stay away from gigs involving streaming media if you like rewarding work. |

Yes. I have realplayer-10.0.3 installed. It's plugin is installed in /opt/RealPlayer/mozilla. I use Konqueror exclusively (KDE 3.4 now), so here's how I get the plugin working:
1) emerge nsplugins (this adds plugin functionality to konqueror)
2) in Konqueror, go Settings-Configure Konqueror-Plugins, click New and add the directory
3) click Scan for New Plugins
Should show up and you should be able to view Real video/audio immediately. Mozilla users should have it as easy or easier. |

I just emerged realplayer and I'm getting this error:
/opt/RealPlayer/realplay.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
That file is in /usr/lib, though. How can I make real player see it? |

I was clicking links to watch programs on democracynow.org and firefox was downloading the .ram or whatever file instead of opening it with realplayer 10. Turned out the problem was the plug-in settings. Go into Edit > Preferences > Downloads and click audio-x-pn-realaudio then click the Change Action... button and change radio button selection from the 'Open them in this application: /opt/RealPlayer8/realplay' to 'Open them in the Default application: /opt/RealPlayer/realplay' and you'll be set.

Hi,
on amd64 with mozilla-firefox-bin, how would I install realplayer?
I emerge reaplayer for amd64 but I know I made a mistake because it is a 64bit package.
I believe I should be installing an x86 version so that it can be working with firefox-bin.
Could please anybody give me some explanations of how to install this realplayer?
I appreciate your advice.

I am having the same problem as NikoDim but using the realplayer emerge (10.0.5) on a fresh gentoo install running xfce4
The message
Code: | /opt/RealPlayer/realplay.bin: error whilst loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared objest file: No such file or directory |
I've remerged realplayer but no koy
There exists a symlink, executable by all linked to libstdc++.so.5.0.7
This appears a common problem with FC$ systems, they have a compat-libstdc++.so.5 library to deal with it.
Any solution for Gentoo?
Cheers

Solution for the above problem, where realplayer cannot see libstdc++.so.5
Recomplie glibc WITHOUT the fpmath=sse flag set in make.conf.
Then works like a treat.
Assume as this is a bin package it is complied assuming math is done using 387 fpu math, and so uses 80bit tempories which sse doesn't support (something like that, more details in gnu manual if yr interested!)

Try disabling "Use Xvideo" in Tools>Preferences>Hardware |

I've just upgraded from gcc 3.3.6 to 3.4.3 and during the subsequent revdep-rebuild I get the following error when trying to redo realplayer:

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case for me.
There was no fpmath=sse so I removed all the cflags for my Pentium4 and recompiled glibc but the error is still.
Code: | # realplay
/opt/RealPlayer/realplay.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory |
My cflags reads "CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3"
Does anyone have any ideas? |
