Hi All,

I am from New Zealand and next year I am planning to spend about 6 months in Germany. I was wondering what the job market is like for experienced IT people is over there.

I have 5 years experience in Network Administration with Linux and Windows servers and am currently the National IT manager for a chain of restaurants.

My German is pretty bad at the moment but I am slowly learning.

Any tips or advice are really appreciated.

Regards,

Andrew

The economy in Germany is stagnating atm. We had a continuous regression over the last two years. Getting a job in the IT-sector is quite difficult right now, a lot of people from that area don't do what they are qualified for. Depending on how much experience you have you might have a good chance finding a job, especially in these companies were english was declared the primary language

if you had asked this question for about 3 years ago, i would say absolutelly that here is a paradies of the IT people.

Nowadays i can say, it is really not easy to get a job in this area. But if you have really good references and are well experienced, i can say there are always jobs for such people.
if you have a good job over there, stay where you are

Heh, yes I have a pretty good job here but I want to see the world and in particular Germany.

I'm only 24 so I have to make the most of overseas travel while I can as once you hit 35 it's very hard to get work visa's.

One of my friends who is from NZ but living in Romania at the moment said most of Europe is in an economic recession at the moment and pretty much exactly what you guys have said.

I will keep an eye out on the online job sites for Germany and hopefully something good will come up for me.

Thanks for the help!!
