I can't get 3D acceleration working with my ati mobility m6 ly graphics card. I have a vanilla 2.6.7 kernel with agpgart built into the kernel and radeon as a module that autoloads, and use xorg version 6.7 as my X server and have the display set to 16 bpp. I only get around 115 fps in glxgears; so I really want to get this working. This guy has the same model laptop as I do and says that he got his working, but it doesn't say how. I've also searched around for a while and haven't found anything.

Can you post your xorg.conf? Maybe something is missing or set wrong?

I compared your xorg.conf and it's almost exactly the same. All of the important things seem to be there. I have one other possibility that lots of times seems to be a problem for people. Did you run the command

opengl-update xorg-x11


after setting everything else up? If not give that a try.

Yes, I did. I found out I had to do that when opengl stopped working when I switched to Xfree and back.

I have a sony vaio PCGR-300 with a 16MG M6 LY (r100)and so far Im just beating a dead horse trying to get 3D acceleration working under xorg with a 2.6 kernel (gentoo-dev-sources).

I have compiled in the agpgart and DRI radeon support...
glxinfo still comes up with direct rendering: no
I have the sections under the xorg.conf uncommented for glx and dri...
I assume theres a few things that Im just missing :(
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

okay after I re-emerged xorg and recompiled my kernel (again) DRI is working....but TCL is always disabled? Any suggestions?

raderjm - wow, I didn't know anyone else was in my situation. I'll have to try your suggestions.
If there's a way to get tcl to work, knoppix 3.3 doesn't know how. In knoppix it somehow figures out how to enable direct rendering.
raderjm: can you post the output of glxinfo? What does the command 'grep -C 10 "Host bridge:" /proc/pci' output?
Anyways, sorry I didn't respond earlier. I was without power for over 12 hours :(

All I have compiled into the kernel is (not as a module):

When the above listed were modules... DRI would not work even though the modules were loaded. I'll be happy to give any more output lists you may need.

raderjm - I don't have the same motherboard as you, which complicates things. Also, I notice that you have the defaultdepth set to 24, which is odd because I thought I heard somewhere that it needs to be 16 to get dri working with the m6 ly card. Anyways, thanks for the help :) I'll try compiling the modules directly into the kernel to see if that does anything.

I've got DRI working twice by luck BUT TCL is not a feature in Radeon M6 LY.I did a few test and didn't notice any performance increase using DRI :(.
BTW, I'm running on Fujitsu P-1120.
