|

Howdy,
At my last emerge -u world, Thunderbird went up to 0.7.1. However when I started, it told me that my extensions were all uninstalled. Well I really LIKE enigmail so I went off in search of new versions of enigmail.
The latest and greatest Enigmail is 0.85 and I downloaded the two files, enigmail-0.85.0.xpi and enigmime=0.85.0-tb-linux.xpi. It said that enigmail would be installed as a user extension but the MIME extension had to be installed at the system level. So I install enigmail. No hitches. I move to root and fire up thunderbird and try to install enigmime. It doesn't work. It flashes for half a second in the extensions list and then disappears. I check the About Enigmail and it says it has an old version of enigmime (0.84)
As far as I can tell, it thinks it's trying to be installed as the root USER rather than at a system level install. So I poke around in the /usr/lib/MozillyThunderbird directory, but I don't see a place to stick the plugin so it installs properly. I do see the install log though, and it says that enigmime has been installed twice successfully.
So, it looks like it TRIED to install, but it's not actually working or pointing in the right direction.
Has anyone tried to do this?
Regards,

My understanding of the ebuild is that if you have the USE flag "crypt" enabled it will install enigmail when you emerge Thunderbird. When I upgraded it told me all my old extensions were disabled, but Enigmail was working and updated right from the start... |

Well I never did figure out how to get enigmail 0.85 installed, but I unemerged and re-emerged and it worked out okay. There is some information on the Mozilla enigmail site that suggests for the enigmime portion you have to launch as root and then be the FIRST post launch as root to make it work.
Kind of a pain in the tuckus actually but it worked out. _________________ This signature is printed with 100% post-consumer recycled electrons. |

I had this problem as well. I found the following web page helpful http://enigmail.mozdev.org/troubles.html. One of the suggestions was to:
close thunderbird
delete the Chrome directory in your profile $HOME/.thunderbird/default.../Chrome
start thunderbird
I did this and enigmail was there! |
