In the config file /usr/kde/3/share/applnk/System/konsole.desktop, there is the line

Exec=konsole %i %m

What do the %i and %m mean?

try starting konsole from that menu item then issuing this:
Code:
ps ax | grep konsole

too see what arguments konsole is running with.

hopefully someone else pipes in, to tell you the official answer.

%i %m tells the konsole to show your hostname and working path at the bash prompt.

e.g. :
someuser@somehost.net someuser $
