Bit of a niche market here, but as far as i can see, the only naitive PDF reader for the palm is Adobe's acrobat reader.
Which would be fine except is needs to use a windows (or mac) desktop to process the files before transferrig them across.
Up until now i hadn't even considered this and was using pdf2html and then plucker to read my pdfs on palm, but i found this posting on the wine mailing list:http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2005/01/0339.html
It is a bit vague for wine newbies such as myself, so i thught i'd write what i did....
then as a user to make all the directories
Then i copied my Palm Desktop directory from my dusty old windows harddrive across into my ~/.wine/drive_c/Program files/ directory
and ran hotsync
up popped the hotsync icon in my tray. It seemed a bit temperamental to start with, but remembered settings after freezes, so after a few goes i had managed to set it to network sync & set up the tcpip settings as local host 255.255.255.0
Then after creating the palm devices by pressing the hosync button on the palm i ran
Code: | pi-nredir -p /dev/pilot | (used to be pi-nredir -p /dev/ptt/USB1 before i got udev sorted)
and amazingly up popped the hotsync dialogue and it happily synced
plain sailing after that=:
install AdobeReader305-PalmOS.exe
Code: | wine AdobeReader305-PalmOS.exe |
and install those pdfs.
still think plucker is better, but this is a fantastic kludge! |
