g'day,
when trying to emerge kde it runs for quite a long time doing it's thing until near the end i get this message
ERROR: The ebuild did not complete succesfully.
Function kde_src_compile, Line -6648, Exitcode 2
died running emake kde_src_compile:make
i would be most appreciative if someone could tell me what this means.

Could you post about 30 or so lines prior to "ERROR: The ebuild did not complete succesfully."? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I got that exact same error yesterday too. The most I could figure out was a typdef was missing somewhere. I restored a tarball of stage3 that I made, redid the 'emerge sync' and reran 'emerge kde'. This time it puked while trying to merge xfree-4.2.1. I restored stage3 again this morning and am currently doing the kde emerge again. I just got past the xfree problem, so I've got 5 or 6 hours to wait before I see if I hit your problem in kdebase again. |

Which version of gcc are you using, and what are your CFLAGS settings (/etc/make.conf)? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

This is a stock Gentoo 1.4_rc1 install. Gcc 3.2, CFLAGS is "-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" |

I get a different error, but it seems to choke in the same place:
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../.. -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/kde/3/include -I/usr/qt/3/include -I/usr/X11R6/include -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT -D_REENTRANT -DNDEBUG -O2 -march=i686 -O3 -pipe -c xftgram-kfi.c -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/xftgram-kfi.o

I'm not running 1.4 yet, and am using gcc 2.95.3-r7. Any ideas?
PS This occured after doing 'emerge rsync', then 'emerge -u world', and nothing else has gakked yet, so my version of xfree is 4.2.1 |

ok. I'll save you guys a lot of trouble and point you directly to what you're looking for.
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9423
Just a little suggestion. The first thing you should do when you have a problem is look in bugs.gentoo.org for it. If it exists you will find information about it, if it doesn't then you add it yourself. |

I did attempt to search through the bugs db before I posted here. I put xftint.h in the search terms box, clicked show, and voila... Nothing. So I came looking here to see if other people were having the same problem. As a developer, I don't submit bug reports unless I can give more than, "It doesn't work."
Cooincidently, if there was an open bug, that clearly has xftint.h in the description, why didn't the search feature find it? |

Yeah, I had seen that mentioned in other posts, but hadn't tried downgrading to xfree 4.2.0 yet because the error isn't the same as mine. I'm trying it now though, so I'll post the results. |

What a long weekend it's been. Downgrading to xfree 4.2.0, doing emerge -u world, then upgrading to xfree 4.2.1 took a while, but everything appears to be working now. |
