I am trying to create my resolv.conf file. I can enter VI alright and enter the text for my nameserver and DNS addresses. However when I press ESC to escape from input mode the screen blinks and nothing happens. If I press W to write the file I get the same reeesult and if I press Q to quit I get an error messae saying that Q is not a Vi command. Can anyone tell me what am dong wrong.
thanks
Scott

You need after you press ESC do this
:wq = write and quit

If you're unfamiliar with vi syntax and need to edit files quickly, you'd probably be better off going with something a bit more user-friendly, like "nano." When you've got some more time on your hands, I'd make sure you've emerged "vim" and then run "vimtutor." That'll guide you through the fundamentals of using vi rather well. |
