|
|
Ever since I installed Gentoo on my machines, I have the problem that on some websites using Flash, there's no text displayed inside the Flash Applets. I can select the invisible text, copy/paste it into some editor and read what's supposed to be there, but the text itself is not visible. An example for a site like this would be http://www.funkstorung.com/
Does anyone know how to fix this? |

Try installing windoze TTF fonts. Also, upgrade the netscape-flash (if you hadn't done it already). _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

I have corefonts installed, and my Flash plugin is the latest non-masked version (6.0.81). |

Well, you can install the latest masked (I use it without any problems and it works perfectly - much better than 6). _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

I have the same problem, and I've been looking for some answer. I have found a post about the same problem, but under Debian. I appears than one person could solve it, but another didn't. I can't properly understand all they talk about. Can anyone read that post and try to port it to gentoo???
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/194004
Also, I have to say that when I installed gentoo, and emerge netscape-flash, it worked property, but now it doesn't. The only thing it did was install windoze fonts, and some artistic fonts that I previously had in mandrake, that i found in knoppix (like "DirtyBaker'sDozen", "Golden Girdle", etc). I anyone has installed manually this fonts, can you post your XF11Config file, at least, the fonts dir part?? |

I had the same problem (following a migration from XFree to X.org), and installing the windows TTF's worked for me.
good luck,

It worked!!!
I supposed it was a font problem, but I had also installed windoze fonts. I had copyed them into /usr/share/fonts/TTF, but it didn't worked. So I decided to copy the same ones to the directory /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF and then I ran "/etc/init.d/xfs restart". It sow the changes in the directory and indexed it. After finish, i ran opera and point to macromedia site and.... I can read all the texts!!!!!!
I hope you can also solve it |

He,
same problem here, but no solution yet. Tried all flash ebuilds, loaded it seperately from macromedia.com .. flash works, but on most pages without text (there is nothing in rightclick->settings, too). I emerged urw-fonts, corefonts, copied fonts from windows and put the directories into /etc/X11/fs/config . It is possible to use them in other programs. Reading the text from the *swf with gflashplayer didn´t work, nor as root. If the text is within a editing area, I can successfully copy it into another window.
i´m using xorg´s xserver.

I bet you are missing some fonts. Do you have xfs running? try hacking its options (in /etc/X11/fs/config is I am not mistaken). _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

xfs is running and working. added so much fonts to get around this issue, but nothing helps. the installer said, urw-fonts and ttfonts are needed. which fonts did they mean with ttfonts? the normal ttf from the xorg package?
piefke
edit: i executed gflashplayer through strace and saw this:
Code: | open("/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/config", O_RDONLY) = 7
fstat64(7, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1187, ...}) = 0
mmap2(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0x40
714000
read(7, "#\n# X Font Server configuration "..., 4096) = 1187
open("
/fonts.dir", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
close(7) |
you see, after checking my xfs configuration it tried opening "/fonts.dir".
here my config for xfs (blown up with fonts, normal not):
Code: |
no-listen = tcp
clone-self = on
catalogue =
/usr/share/fonts/local,
/usr/share/fonts/corefonts,
/usr/share/fonts/freefont,

couldn´t believe it, i have a solution!
flash had problems parsing my /etc/X11/fs/config, cause there was a newline after "catalogue =".
so it tried opening the fonts.dir inside the directory " " (the whitespace after "catalogue"), ending up in ignoring the other directories. |

Unfortunately /etc/X11/fs/config is a zero-byte file on my system. I haven't found a way around this flash problem yet. |

Have you merged xorg-x11 with or without "font-server" flag use??
If not, you must recompile xorg with the flag actived!
This is my flags on xorg-x11:
Code: |
[ebuild R ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2 -3dfx -3dnow +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug -dlloader -dmx -doc +font-server -insecure-drivers +ipv6 -minimal -mmx +nls -nocxx +opengl +pam -sdk -sse -static +truetype-fonts +type1-fonts (-uclibc) -xprint +xv 9 kB

Ok, strange thing - this solved my problem completely on one Gentoo installation, but with another almost identical one it still has a zero-byte /etc/X11/fs/config file. I've set font-server in USE flags, re-emerged twice now, but it's still zero bytes (even if I delete it before emerging). |

what helped is if fontserver config file is empty:
delete /etc/X11/fs/config and reemerge xorg-x11 |

Hmmm, but note my last comment (I'm referring to deletion of the config file):

Thanks for posting your config file - unfortunately I'm not really in a position to test this at the moment. I will post back here if/when I next get the opportunity to try this out. |
