I am rather tired waiting for hardened-sources 2.6, and i am wondering how dangerous it is to use an unstable kernel (that is, marked ~x86 in the portage tree)? |

If it's in the portage tree at all, it's probably quite stable enough for desktop usage at least. For a production server, I'd think twice before using unstable anything, however.
BTW, if you want a hardened 2.6 kernel, try hardened-dev-sources. |

I wouldn't really know how to use that stable back up kernel if i ran into problems.
I thought hardened-dev-sources was the hardened-sources 2.6? |

I thought hardened-dev-sources was the hardened-sources 2.6? | I always have symlinks /boot/vmlinuz and /boot/vmlinuz.old that point to the newest and second to newest kernels respectively. Then have a Grub entry for both and switching between one kernel and the other is trivial. |

When i was installing my new kernel, i realised that i just had to keep my old one as an alternative during bootup :-)
Now i have the new kernel installed and it all works.
Thanks a lot. |
