do not put vga=791 or vga=... at all as it is not nessesery [/code]

mmm... I've been using
Code:
kernel /kernel-2.6.7-love7 root=/dev/hdb8 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr vga=794 elevator=cfq rootflags=nopseudo splash=silent

So I guess I'm a little out of date. I'll try that then :)

Of course it drops the ping, that's the first basic item of security.

interesting though, wget works here, I really would check your ip settings in your kernel.

At least you've got it now :D

Changes the scheduler to use to CFQ algorithm in its elevator. CFQ means "controlled fair queueing". Ask someone else about the use of the work "elevator" in this context.

I use it 'cos it seems to work better on my box than the defaults. All very subjective mind.

well... I still seem to be having quite a few problems with my SATA.
I tried using my old .config, and tried compiling the love-sources back from scratch, and I'm still stuck at the same problem. My sata devices don't get added to the devices list (/dev/hde and /dev/hdg)

I just unmerged the love-sources just because they're of no use to me like this. My main hd (root) is PATA, but my data disks are SATA, and I can't work without those...
my hardware: ASUS A7N8X Deluxe M/B with sil3112A SATA chipset.

well... Unpatched 2.6.7 (what I'm running now) runs great!
I also tried 2.6.7-rc1 last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago) and that one worked great too for what I needed (no bootsplash for me)

it's actually just this one that doesn't seem to be willing to work for me.

Now you can select your refresh rate for your console!

So I can just copy this line:
"video=vesafb:ywrap,vram:16,1024x768-16@85"
and it should work?

http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6/2.6.7/2.6.7-mm6/broken-out/bk-usb.patch

Get it.

Code:
cd /path/to/linux/source
patch -Rp1 < ../path/to/patch1
patch -Rp1 < ../path/to/patch2

And compile.

But I don't get more than 60Hz using this line:
video=vesafb:ywrap,vram:16,1024x768-16@75
